With its rich history, Route 1866 broadly follows the old municipal boundary of Zwammerdam village, an independent municipality from 960 to 1964. The total distance is about 25 km. The route is signposted with ‘Route 66’ stickers. The route is based on the map from 1866, the municipal boundary of the Municipality of Zwammerdam. This map was transposed onto the current situation (via Google Earth). The old River Rhine and residential areas have been used as basis to provide the most accurate reflection of the situation. It’s amazing to see how accurate the 1866 map was without the use of aerial photography.
