This walk starts at Brewery De Molen in Bodegraven. From Bodegraven, you find yourself on a lovely path through the meadows. The route takes you along the meandering old river De Meije towards Zwammerdam. Just before the village, you come across the Achtkante/Nieuwe Ziende Mill (body/remainder). After the lake was drained, in 1809 this mill was built not far from the original Ziende Mill, as the third mill to drain the area: the Achtkante or Nieuwe Ziende Mill. In 1921, a pumping station was built on the site of the (Old) Ziende Mill. That was when the Achtkante Mill was largely demolished, with only the body remaining. The interior is still almost completely authentic. Picturesque paths leading right through the wet polder will guide you back again.
Note: the breeding season runs from 15 March to 1 July. You may not therefore be able to walk in certain parts.
