The little village of Sluipwijk is the starting point for the Wetland walking route along the Reeuwijkse Plassen. The walk starts at De Rokende Turf, the Wetland Information Centre at Watersnip. There is an information sign with the QR code for this walk at the entrance to the centre. If you scan the code and switch on your GPS, you will be able to listen to stories about the landscape along the way. Many stories are about the effect of the local population’s professional activities on the landscape. The stories are about dredgers, peat cutters, farmers, day labourers and fishermen. Although this trail is stunningly beautiful in the spring and summer, it’s definitely also highly recommended in the winter. Thousands of water birds from northern countries migrate here to spend the winter in the so-called surf lake.
