Anyone with an interest in the history of the Reeuwijk region should definitely visit the Reeuwijk Regional Museum. The museum shows how the Reeuwijkse Plassen were created through the process of peat extraction. These blocks of peat were used as fuel at that time. Besides a glimpse into life on and around the lakes, the museum also offers a detailed impression of daily life in the countryside in ‘grandmother’s time’. The museum displays objects, photos, books, films and also offers a treasure hunt for the young. The museum building itself is an old farmhouse that dates back to 1907.
Collectie Beunder Part of the Beunder Collection is housed in the museum. Cees Beunder (1938-2014) was a teacher as well as an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist, who played an important role in the archeology of Bodegraven.
